Former Aston Villa boss Ron Atkinson says his old club should sell Ashley Young this month.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all chasing the England winger.
And Big Ron said: "The manager came in too late to bring in his own players and he's had injuries to key men.
"But there's no doubt the business he does in the January window will be vitally important. He hasn't had the galvanising effect some new managers have when they come into a club and he is also having to deal with one or two players who appear to be kicking over the traces.
"No club wants to be losing its best players and Villa have lost Gareth Barry and James Milner to Manchester City recently.
"But it may just make sense right now for them to cash in on Ashley Young.
"There have been stories that Manchester United and Tottenham are interested in signing him.
"Villa have two other good wingers in young Marc Albrighton and Stewart Downing and the money they'd get for Young could be used to buy two or three players.
"I see Villa often and what they need above all is a controlling midfielder, such as Scott Parker, and a good front player."
