Director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson will not appoint a big-name manager at Notts County just for the sake of it. The League Two outfit have a five-man shortlist for the job and have been linked with a host of top managers, including Roberto Mancini, Gordon Strachan and Steve Coppell.
However, executive chairman Peter Trembling insists Eriksson will not choose a high-profile boss unless he is certain he can help Notts County achieve their aim of playing Premier League football within the next five years.
"It is not just about the name. The next manager has to tick all of the boxes and fit in with what we are doing," Trembling told the Evening Post. "Sven has got two favourites and it has to be the right appointment for the short-term and the long-term.
"Sven is a genius. He knows what makes a good manager. We are privileged to have him in charge of the football side and he will work closely with whoever he brings in."
