Big Jack says Adam Armstrong ready for Newcastle

Former Newcastle United boss Jack Charlton feels Adam Armstrong is ready to start for the Magpies.

Big Jack was the man who handed Paul Gascoigne his debut 29 years ago when the then 17-year-old came on as a sub against Queens Park Rangers in a 1-0 victory at St James' Park.

Charlton told the Evening Chronicle: "I have heard about him.

"You have to bring the young lads in somewhere and at some stage.

"The FA Youth Cup is as good a place as any.

"It can help shape a young lad's career.

"It did with Gazza."
