Benteke pleased with Villa character in Norwich win

Aston Villa's two-goal hero Christian Benteke was absolutely delighted with the way his side responded against Norwich City on Sunday.

The Belgian striker netted two goals in very quick succession in Villa's eventual 4-1 victory at Villa Park which came after Wes Hoolahan scored early for the visiting Canaries.

In the 25th minute, Benteke controlled a pass from Ron Vlaar on his chest before hooking a well-taken shot over his shoulder and past Norwich keeper John Ruddy before he headed home Ashley Westwood's corner less than three minutes later to give Villa a 2-1 lead.

A third goal, this time from Leandro Bacuna, and an own-goal from Sebastien Bassong allowed the home side to eventually record a strong win which saw them kick seven points clear of the drop zone, thrilling Benteke.

"We started really bad and made some changes and got the first goal and it was good for the team," he told Sky Sports.

"Since we scored the first goal we really showed some good football and some good character as well."

Of his goals, he added: "(Scoring the goals) is good for myself but more important for the team."

Benteke has now netted nine Premier League goals this season for a total of 28 from 57 league outings since joining from Genk in the summer of 2012.
