Benteke hoping Aston Villa's 'cool guy' Sherwood can have Adebayor-like influence

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke admits it would be nice if manager Tim Sherwood can work his magic with him.

The Belgium international was back on the scorers' sheet in the 2-1 West Midlands derby win over West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night with a coolly taken injury-time penalty.

Benteke has netted just three goals this season after recovering from a serious Achilles injury and is looking to get back amongst the goals and fire Villa up the table.

The 24-year old is aware how Sherwood got the best out of Emmanuel Adebayor while at the helm at Tottenham and would love it if the influence can rub off on him.

"The new manager understands my situation, that I have to be given more chances and then maybe I will start scoring more goals," he said.

"I saw what he did with Adebayor and maybe it is a similar situation and I hope to do the same. He speaks with a lot of confidence. He's a very cool guy. For us he is the right manager."
