Benitez convinced Chelsea would be title challengers with January signings

Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez feels they could've given the title a shake if he'd been supported in the January market.

Benitez makes his farewell today against Everton, leaving behind what he claims is a better balanced Chelsea squad.

His CV has also improved after qualification for the Champions League was followed by Chelsea's 2-1 Europa League Final win over Benfica in Amsterdam last week.

But Benitez feels he could have achieved more. He said: "We were short, particularly after we lost Oriol Romeu.

"Then we had the Africa Cup of Nations and Frank Lampard and David Luiz were playing too many games in that midfield position.

"Maybe a little more depth in the squad could have helped at that time.

"But we cannot change things. We have been successful in one of the big competitions and we have qualified for the Champions League."
