Benfica's Jesus can wave his fingers at some more managers - Tottenham boss

Tottenham's Tim Sherwood says Benfica manager Jorge Jesus is now free to wave his fingers at some more managers.

Jesus' Portuguese side are through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after beating Spurs 5-3 on aggregate courtesy of a 3-1 first leg win in north London last week and a 2-2 draw in Lisbon on Thursday night.

When Benfica scored their third goal at White Hart Lane, Jesus waved three fingers at Sherwood in a non-sportsmanlike gesture which irked the Spurs boss who publicly commented on the motion.

After the 2-2 draw in Portugal, in which Sherwood watched form the directors' box, the Englishman congratulated Jesus and Benfica but not before distributing a parting shot at the Portuguese tactician.

"I just wanted to get a better view up there and maybe take some steam out of the situation," Sherwood said. "It was about what our boys could do against their boys on the pitch.

"Obviously there was a flare-up between me and their manager last week and I didn't want that to take away from what we did on the pitch.

"The concentration was on the pitch and we played better than them.

"Congratulations to him, he's got the chance to wave his fingers at a few more managers in this competition."
