LISBON: FC Schalke have grabbed top spot in Group B with a 2-1 win over an unlucky Benfica in Lisbon on Tuesday night.

Jose Jurado kicked off proceedings for the visitors when he slotted home with his left foot in the 19th minute and although Benfica had plenty of shots on goal for the remainder of the match, they were unable to equalize.

Benedikt Howedes made it 2-0 in the 81st minute when he fired home from close range before Luisao pulled one back for the Portuguese club with three minutes left but it wasn't enough as the Germans finished on top on 13 points with Benfica third in six.
