LA Galaxy star David Beckham got through 20 minutes on his return from injury against Columbus Crew on Saturday. The 35-year old English midfielder was sidelined from March with an Achilles injury he suffered whilst on loan with Italian giants AC Milan and was able to get through part of the 3-1 win over Crew at The Home Depot Center.
Beckham admits he felt good and there were no ill-effects but is unsure just how much game time coach Bruce Arena will give him this weekend against DC United.
"There wasn't any reaction from irritation from the 20 minutes that I got and I felt good on the Monday," Beckham said. "It was a good 20 minutes and a good time to get in. That's down to the manager, whether he thinks I should start or come into the game."
Arena admitted that a start was unlikely but a natural progression to more minutes was a definite.
"We're not building him from 20 minutes to 90 minutes," Arena said. "We're building him from 20 minutes to somewhere between 20 and 45, and then somewhere between 45 and 60. Once we're sure he can play 45 minutes, I think he's in position to start a game."
