Beckham at the forefront as MLS champs LA Galaxy return to training

David Beckham was front and centre as 2011 MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy kicked off their 2012 pre-season on Monday.

The English veteran recently signed a new two-year deal and was immediately back at training with the squad which was a little undermanned in the absence of Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane who are on loan with Everton and Aston Villa respectively.

However, head coach Bruce Arena was not worried too much about the depth of his squad just yet as he strives to get a good fitness base into this current crop whilst searching for some players to fill the gaps.

"Go from Day 1 to Day 2 is the immediate focus," Arena said. "Fitness is a big part of it.

"We're not really going to be too concerned with the preseason practice games in terms of winning and losing.

"We have certain holes in our roster to solidify, so that will all go into preseason strategy. Fitness is the whole preseason."
