Bayern Munich defender De Ligt on Arsenal draw: We always step up in Europe

Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt says they left Arsenal last night very happy.

Bayern drew 2-2 in London in the first-leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.

De Ligt said: "We have a very strong team with quality. I've been feeling bad in the last few games, due to the defeats, but then in the Champions League we always put in great performances and it happened today too.

"It's difficult to say (why we perform in Europe). This year we haven't done well in the championship, I'm angry about this, given that after two bad games today we did very well.

"I know that we have a very strong team in all departments. When we are at the top mentally and physically we are difficult to beat. Today we were very dangerous, it's a shame about the 2-2 draw, a good result in any case on the road.

"The first part of the year I was injured but in 2024 I am well and fit and have played a lot of games.

"We hope to win, next week will be a very important match but first there is Saturday's match."
