MUNICH: Last season's Champions League runners-up, Bayern Munich, have moved through to the Round of 16 with a 3-0 home win over FC Basel.

Franck Ribery struck first for the Germans with a 35th minute strike before Anatoliy Tymoshuck added a second two minutes later with a volley from close range after a Toni Kroos corner was helped on by Mario Gomez.

And just four minutes after the break, Ribery essentially wrapped up proceedings when he side-footed home after a smart run and pass from Thomas Mueller.

The win allowed Bayern to finish top of Group E in 15 points, denying Basel the chance to finish any closer than four points behind AS Roma who grabbed second with a draw in Cluj.
