Basham backs Sheffield Utd to pull off great escape

Sheffield United star Chris Basham still believes the club can survive in the Premier League.

The Blades are enduring a horrible season in the Premier League, as they find themselves rock bottom.

Sheffield United have two points from 14 matches, with the next closest teams having 7, 10 and 12 points respectively.

But Basham, who has been with the Blades since 2014, is still holding out hope.

He told reporters ahead of a Boxing Day match with Everton: "This is a big period now for us. We want to start stepping up and putting pressure on the teams above us.

"It's up to us to start getting points on the board.

"We had a meeting after the Southampton game and the manager said that the only way is up now.

"I think you saw a difference in our performance against Man United. We were aggressive and on the front foot like the the old Blades way.

"Again at Brighton we showed grit and aggression to get a result.

"This is a big period for the lads now. Everton is a game we can get our teeth into.

"There's no reason why we can't get this done (survive).

"One thing the manager has never let happen is to let the lads go divided. We're all in it together and it's down to us to get out of it."
