Bardsley racing to rescue Sunderland career

Phil Bardsley is racing to rescue his Sunderland career under new manager Gus Poyet.

The Daily Mail says Bardsley has begun an intensive fitness drive as he looks to be fit for Gus Poyet's first game in charge.

The former Manchester United full-back has not played this season after breaking his foot whilst playing for the Under-21's in August.

But Bardsley is back in full training and is aiming to be fit for the clash against Swansea on October 19.
