Barcelona striker Lewandowski proud of Golden Boot: We have exciting future here

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski was presented with the European Golden Boot on Wednesday.

The former Bayern Munich star spoke about the size of Barcelona and predicted that they will improve next year.

After being presented with his trophy, the Poland international spoke about life at his new club and his optimism for the future.

Going into the World Cup break, his new team are top of LaLiga Santander, but crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage.

"I'm sure that next year will be very good," said Lewandowski.

"Now I know why Barcelona is more than a club and is very important.

"We're on the right path, what happened yesterday [comeback win at Osasuna] was good, these games show the desire we have to win."

Lewandowski will face stiff competition from Erling Haaland in his attempt to retain his crown as Europe's top marksman. The 34-year-old, however, insists that the team comes first.

"Thank you so much, I am very proud, I have worked very hard for this prize and thanks also to my former teammates at Bayern," said Lewandowski.

"The best thing for me is the team winning, more than individual prizes or goals, but I'll try to do it again, although it will be hard.

"It's been easy to settle in here thanks to the squad and coaches, but there's a lot of work that goes into that.

"I have to keep working because it's a very long season and when we get back from the World Cup there will be six months to go."
