Barcelona have snapped back at the mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas.

Salellas slammed Barca over their swoop for Oriol Romeu from Girona this week.

But Barca director Elena Fort responded, stating: "We are quite surprised by the statements of the mayor of Girona regarding our club. We don't understand your statements very much, really. From a public institution, there should be no confrontation between clubs and between the most important cities in this country.

"Barça always has their hands extended to Girona and the people of Girona. Oriol is a boy who wanted to go home and we don't like the public part to intervene because we don't want confrontation between clubs."
