Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font says the players were happy to see Ernesto Valverde sacked.

Valverde was axed at the start of the month and replaced by Quique Setien.

Font stated, "I know that the players didn't want Valverde anymore."

The businessman admits he was happy Al Sadd coach Xavi turned down the job, "I was afraid that Xavi would be used as a patch and it could have harmed him."

Xavi is wanted by Font to join his presidential ticket, but is not the only Barca legend he's in contact with.

"I have spoken with (Andres) Iniesta and (Carles) Puyol but their role is not defined."
