Barcelona president Joan Laporta says a new contract is on the agenda for coach Xavi.

Laporta was speaking today at a press forum.

"Yes, I have already considered it, even if LaLiga isn't won," said Laporta. "I've told Xavi , but he insists that if we don't win... But I want to give him a message of calm. We have to renew him because he earned it, he knows the house and defends the genuine style of Barca.

"It doesn't make you stretch your arm more than the sleeve. He doesn't ask for crazy things and he understands the club's situation. In fact, I've already thought about it. I had not commented on it with my board mates who are here, but it is like that."

As for Sergio Busquets, with a contract until June 30, he will leave the decision in the hands of the Barca captain.

Laporta continued: "Busquets is out of contract and he is a fundamental person in the dressing room. Xavi wants him to continue and he is thinking about what to do. He has other important offers to take his career to another level.

"As a person and father, it is understood. We have not made a firm proposal, but we will do it shortly. We want him to continue for a year more. With ' Busi' we don't have the offer outlined, but we will propose one more year. He is a reference in the world of football and has important offers."
