Samuel Eto'o struck four times for Barcelona in last night's 6-0 thrashing of Real Valladolid.
Thierry Henry and Eidur Gudjohnsen also were on the scoresheet, but it was Eto'o's masterclass that drew the praise.
Barca president Joan Laporta said: "It is historic when a player scores four goals in a game.
"And it is a credit to the whole team, but we must recognize that it has been wonderful for Eto'o, and that is an immense joy for all."
Barca coach Pep Guardiola also said: "He is having a fantastic season. He's the best we have. He knows he cannot do it alone and works hard for the team."
