Estudiantes veteran Javier Mascherano says Barcelona may not be Lionel Messi's last club.

Barca hero Mascherano joined Estudiantes last year and insists he could eventually be followed by Messi.

"Anything can happen in football and everything will depend on his desire to play in Argentina," said Mascherano. "Family circumstances will also influence when you come back to live here.

"Those are things that go personally, in private, and you try not to get involved. If in the future he decides to come, it would be a giant leap in quality for our football and the country for what he represents.

"He is the best player in the world."
