Barcelona coach Xavi confident in job; upset with Lewandowski suspension

Barcelona coach Xavi says he feels confident in his job.

After early season doubts, Barca broke up for the World Cup leading the LaLiga table.

Xavi said of his future, “It will depend on the results, any elite coach is at the expense of the results. Very high expectations have been generated and we must be there, we are going to compete in national competitions, we are leaders in the LaLiga and we are going to compete in the Europa League.

“Leading at the break has been very important, especially to calm the environment. We are already preparing for the second part of the season, which is atypical with the World Cup in between. It will be necessary to take into account the physical aspect and also the mental aspect of those who have not met their expectations in Doha."

Xavi, meanwhile, was blunt when reflecting on Robert Lewandowski's suspension: “We are going to appeal, we believe it is an excessive sanction, because it was an impulsive gesture, he already explained it perfectly, it is too much punishment and we will see if we can reduce it.

"Robert is an example of conduct, he always has been, which is why we believe that it is excessive."
