Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard defended his decision to leave Deco on the bench for yesterday's 2-0 victory at Real Mallorca.

The Portugal international is fit and available, but sat out the match.

Rijkaard said: "It was a purely technical decision. Deco is fit to play."
