Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu insists former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song was always their No1 transfer target.
Barca were also chasing Javi Martinez, who eventually left Athletic Bilbao for Bayern Munich.
"Song was always the first choice. Javi Martinez was an interesting player, but we all know how that story ended," insisted Bartomeu.
