Barcelona ace Luis Suarez says Steven Gerrard gave him the best piece of advice in his career.

Suarez admitted that but for a private heart-to-heart with Liverpool captain Gerrard in the summer of 2013 he might never have landed his £75m move to Spain the following year.

"I do owe so much to Steven when Arsenal wanted to sign me," said Suarez to the Daily Express. "We had a private conversation and he said, 'Give us another season and wait for Barcelona, you are too good for Arsenal'.

"It is the best advice he could have given. If it was not for him I might not be at Barcelona now."
