Bale insists no regrets over second Spurs spell

Gareth Bale insists he has no regrets over his second spell with Tottenham.

The former Wales captain struggled to make the impact he hoped, but says there were still positives to come from the experience.

He told the club's website: "My idea was to come back in front of a full house in this incredible stadium, but it wasn't meant to be in terms of the fans being here.

"Again, I loved my time here and maybe I didn't have as big an impact as I did the first time, which I knew coming into it was never going to be the case at my age but, again, I made more great relationships at the club, I enjoyed being here, enjoyed playing.

"This club is so special for me and as I said at the start, it's the best club I've ever been at."

Bale also said, "Retirement... it felt like a simple decision for me. Everyone will tell you when they retire that they know when the time is right, my body wasn't feeling too great, I've a bit of a sore back most of the time, but I can't complain about the career I had. I felt it was the right time to hang my boots up and I've been enjoying my time since."
