AZ Alkmaar striker Jozy Altidore has surpassed the European goalscoring record for American players in a season.
The 23-year old netted his 24th goal of the campaign as AZ were beaten 2-1 by RKC Waalwijk on Sunday to break Tottenham forward Clint Dempsey's record of 23 goals in a European season, set whilst at Fulham last term.
Altidore joined AZ from Spanish club Villarreal in July 2011 and has since scored a total of 43 goals in 83 appearances in all competitions. This season he has netted 17 Eredivisie goals in 24 outings and seven in the KNVB Cup from five matches.
