AZ chief Verbeek expects Serie A move for Romero

AZ Alkmaar boss Gertjan Verbeek expects Sergio Romero to move to Italy.

Goalkeeper Romero, currently on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup, has been with AZ since 2007.

He remains under contract for two more years but the club's financial situation means a number of players are likely to be let go this summer.

Verbeek, who will take charge of the team for the new campaign following his recent appointment, is bracing himself for Romero's departure.

And Verbeek has indicated that Romero could be set to ply his trade in Serie A from now on.

"I won't name the club," he told Dutch television. "But the clubs have reached an agreement.

"I don't expect Sergio will return to Alkmaar."
