Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas was pleased with Jan Vertonghen's home debut for their draw with West Bromwich Albion.
AVB says the Belgian is his type of defender.
"At the moment we have five extremely good central defenders," said Villas-Boas. "We have Younes (Kaboul), Dawson, Jan, (Steven) Caulker and Gallas all competing for two spots.
"You could say that obviously we lose an extremely good player (in King) but we still have experienced players, players with tremendous talent, ones to take into the future.
"I think Jan is very comfortable with the ball. As long as it's done within reason and the team is balanced, you have to allow players to express themselves and it's something that we promote."
