Australia through to next World Cup qualifying stage

Australia have moved through to the next phase of World Cup qualifying in Asia thanks to a 1-0 win over Thailand on Tuesday.

Brett Holmans' 78th-minute goal separated the two sides at Bangkok's Suphachalasai Stadium as the Socceroos moved seven points clear on the Group D table with second-placed Saudi Arabia still to meet Oman.

Regardless of that result, Holger Osieck's men are now into the 4th round of qualifying for the 2014 Brazil World Cup where they will be so far joined by Japan and Uzbekistan who have progressed from Group C.

Osieck deployed the likes of Mark Schwarzer, Lucas Neill, Holman, Brett Emerton, Matt McKay, Mile Jedinak and Josh Kennedy for the clash with the Thais and it was enough to see them grab the result they required to move one step closer to a third-straight World Cup finals appearance.
