Australia determined to clinch three points in Uzbekistan

A chorus of Australian players, lead by coach Pim Verbeek have stressed the point this week that a first up win in the next phase of World Cup qualifiers is vital. The Socceroos are in Tashkent ahead of tonight's match against Uzbekistan and determined to come back home with three points.

Verbeek told to the Herald Sun that although the game has an element of danger surrounding it, there would be nothing to stand in his side's way.

"We have no excuses. The weather is beautiful but cool in the evening, we have no major injury concerns and the atmosphere is good, so we have perfect circumstances for football.

"Here, Uzbekistan have to take risks after what happened at the weekend (3-0 loss to Qatar) - we don't. And I think we're good enough to win without taking risks."

The Aussies are full of confidence after their 2-1 friendly win over Holland on the weekend and will almost certainly use the same starting line-up as the one that beat the Oranje in Eindhoven. There may be one change however, Scott Chipperfield in for David Carney, but the fact that the team is somewhat settled is a positive sign.

Verbeek added that he was beginning to become more comfortable with the players around him and was happy with the direction of his charges.

"Qualification is all about the details, and that involves best using the qualities of your players and hiding the weaknesses. So far I think we have done it well."
