Aussie young gun Leckie chance for Borussia Monchengladbach start

Mathew Leckie could be set for his first German Bundesliga start with Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday night.

The 20-year old former Adelaide United star played just over ten minutes on debut in last weekend's 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart with Monchengladbach struggling with ten men following the dismissal of Roel Brouwers in the 80th minute.

Leckie did well during his time on the pitch at Borussia-Park and has indicated he could be in the plans of manager Lucien Favre for this weekend's meeting with VfL Wolfsburg.

"That's the decision of the coach and he has many options," Leckie told the club'sofficial website.

"If Igor (de Camargo) can't play, it may well be that Raul Bobadilla who will replace him again. It could also be that Marco Reus who is pulled forward or I move into the starting eleven.

"We'll see what happens, there are still a few days, and I will respect the decision of the coach, no matter how it turns out at the end."

And regarding his Bundesliga debut last week, Leckie added: "Of course I was a bit nervous, after all, it was my first game and the stadium was almost sold out (crowd of over 48,000).

"But when I was on the pitch, the nervousness went away quickly. It was a great feeling and it was a lot of fun to play in front of so many fans."
