Aulas: Mbappe leaving Ligue 1 is colossal; but it's a huge opportunity for PSG

Former Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says French football should be happy for Kylian Mbappe over his departure from PSG.

Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid when he comes off contract this summer.

Aulas told RMC: "Kylian's departure is more an emotional issue, I would say, than the realisation of commercial agreements on television rights. Kylian is truly an era, but he stayed seven years at PSG and it's magnificent.

"For me, in OL's best period, when we were champions every year, and we were champions seven times in a row, no player ever stayed for seven years. And they were often international players.

"Kylian remains in the French national team. And we know his attachment to national affairs. I hope that soon we will also have good news for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The consequences? It's too early to tell. Because today Ligue 1 is obviously Kylian, but so are PSG's performances as such. In life, you must always find an opportunity from difficulties.

"Isn't this the opportunity for PSG, after all I am convinced of this knowing Nasser Al-Khelaifi well and trusting in his ability to seize a new opportunity, to bring in two or three very great players who will perhaps restore credibility?

"In any case, I hope that we will transform this difficulty, because it is evidently colossal, into an opportunity. And we know, life is often made up of winks: let's assume that this year is the good one for PSG with Kylian in the Champions League."
