Atletico Madrid striker Morata: Beating Real Madrid proved title credentials

Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata says they proved their title credentials with victory over Real Madrid.

Morata scored twice as Atletico won 3-1 on Sunday.

He later said: "If there is one thing I have improved over time, it is that I am more mentally prepared and it is a shame that when we are prepared with mental maturity it is almost when we have to retire.

"Many times in my career I feel that my work has been recognised and other times it has not, but what I want is to retire from football with a title with Atleti."

“I don't control the dates or the market. Yes, there were possibilities (to leave). I sat down with the coach and Gustavo (López) and I told him the situation and he told me that he wouldn't move me, that I was going to be important for the team.

"Maybe now I feel more important here than I did in the past."

On winning the LaLiga, Morata added “Hopefully. I think that each one, when he leaves his name at the box office, we all play together for the Atleti shirt and that shows, that we all have the same goal in mind. Eager for the League, for the Champions League, it doesn't matter, with desire."
