Atletico Madrid signing Witsel: At 33 or 23 you can always learn something

Atletico Madrid signing Axel Witsel is delighted with his late career move to Spain.

Witsel has signed for Atletico in a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

He said, "I was free and I chose Atlético because I wanted to continue at a high level, I know I don't have ten years left, but I want to take advantage of my last few years to play at the highest level, Atlético is at that level and that's why I'm here.

"First, I feel great. My role will be like in the national team, defensive pivot. Here we speak of five more than six. Bring the balance of the team, cut off the opponent's counterattacks. With Belgium it is a similar role, I think it will be like that."

On coach Diego Simeone, Witsel also said: “It is clear, he is one of the best coaches in the world, it is one of the reasons why I am here, in recent days we have focused on the physical and I have not been able to talk much with him, but I am very proud to work with him.

"No matter the age, whether 33 or 23 you can always learn something, and you can always learn with him."
