Atletico Madrid have lodged an appeal against Diego Costa's red card picked up against Real Madrid.

The forward was sent off along with Los Blancos full-back Dani Carvajal after an incident broke out between the two players during Atletico's remarkable 7-3 victory in the International Champions Cup.

Costa, who scored four goals, was dismissed for kicking out at the Real Madrid man, which led to a heated brawl between both sets of players.

According to tournament guidelines, the consequence of a red card is a one-match ban.

Already, Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente was sent off against Mexican side Guadalajara but was cleared to play his former club in the Madrid derby.
