Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood felt Christian Benteke showed plenty of courage to score the winning penalty in Tuesday night's West Midlands derby.
The Belgian striker coolly converted from the spot in the fourth minute of injury-time to give Villa a vital 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.
Benteke's last goal came on December 20 and Sherwood believes his calm spot-kick was the effort of a brave striker.
"Goalscorers are there to be shot down and it takes a brave man to stand up there. I asked him before the game if he gets a penalty what he was going to do," said Sherwood.
"He said 'I'll wait until the goalie goes down and I'll roll it in the corner'. I was still peeping through my fingers."
Benteke has had a tough time of it this season but stood tall to score his third league goal of the campaign which helped Villa out of the drop zone.
