Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has admitted his disappointment at not being able to add more players to his squad in January.
The West Midlands club signed Spanish forward Carles Gil from Valencia and winger Scott Sinclair on loan from Manchester City but missed out on a few deals late in the winter window including one for Liverpool's Rickie Lambert.
Of the transfer period, Lambert said: "We tried one or two things to make it happen but it's like anything you are never quite sure until somebody walks through your door and gets signed.
"I think the one or two things that fell through were quite disappointing but that's football. I don't know how far (the Lambert move) got and it's probably unfair of me to comment on that."
Villa will be looking to find some semblance of form when they host league leaders Chelsea on Saturday on the back of a six-game run without scoring a league goal.
