Aston Villa are set to send Chris Herd on loan to Wigan Athletic.
According to the Daily Mail, the versatile 25-year old Australian will join the Championship club for the remainder of the season.
Herd, who came through Villa's youth academy, has not played for Paul Lambert since December 2013 and is wanted by Latics boss Malky Mackay.
The thrice-capped Socceroo, who can be deployed at right-back, centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, is out of contract with Villa at the end of the current campaign.
Herd has had previous loan spells with Port Vale, Wycombe Wanderers, Lincoln City and Bolton.
