Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson saw a move to Espanyol fall through on deadline day.
The 28-year-old midfielder joined Villa from Olympique de Marseille in January 2020 for around £14million but has failed to make a lasting impact in claret and blue, with both injuries and selection issues scuppering his progress in a Villa shirt.
L'Equipe says a "suitable solution" from Espanyol arrived in the "last days of the market" for the player but the move failed to be concluded prior to the deadline on September 1.
The report goes on to state that Villa and the Spanish side agreed a loan deal for the player and all the necessary documents were signed but it arrived "15 minutes late" and therefore could not be completed.
