Aston Villa manager Emery explains Coutinho absence for defeat of Man Utd

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed that creative star Philippe Coutinho is injured.

The Brazilian has been ruled out of Villa's final two games before the World Cup break.

The 30-year-old was not involved in their 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday, which was Emery's first game in charge of the team.

Speaking to BirminghamLive, Emery said: “Coutinho is injured. I don't know how long it will be but, today, he couldn't play and he's not going to play until after the break.

“It's a muscular injury. He's not going to play on Thursday or Sunday because he's injured and he's out longer."

Coutinho is very unlikely to feature in coach Tite's squad for Brazil as they prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
