Aston Villa have made a late move for Real Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

The People says Villa boss Martin O'Neill is trying to grab Spain's Under-21 goalkeeper Asenjo out of the clutches of Atletico Madrid.

Asenjo, 19, who is with La Liga side Real Valladolid, is expected to become Spain's senior No.1.

He is this week due to discuss terms with Atletico - but O'Neill hopes to hijack the deal with a £6million offer. Barcelona are also in the hunt.
