Aston Villa and Leicester City are interested in Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij.

FCInterNews says Villa, Leicester and Atletico Madrid are battling for De Vrij's signature.

It is suggested that the trio have asked the player's agent for “information" regarding the status of De Vrij's contract negotiations, who would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Italy in the New Year.

De Vrij is said to be keen to “seek an agreement" with Inter, having enjoyed success during his time at the club. Inter are reportedly prepared to offer the Dutchman an initial two-year deal on reduced wages, which could prove to be a sticking point between the two parties.

It is suggested that the centre-back is focussed on renewing his contract before “evaluating" offers from elsewhere, though is reportedly aware of his potential suitors abroad, if his contract talks with Inter end in a stalemate.
