Aston Villa hope to hear today from Wigan Athletic about their £10 million offer for Charles' N'Zogbia.
The Sunday Mercury says Villa boss Alex McLeish is prepared to use half of the £20million fee the claret and blues will bank from Liverpool for Stewart Downing and submitted a formal offer to the Latics yesterday afternoon.
But Villa are keen to get their squad rebuilding up and running soon with less than a month until the Premier League kick-off and also have two alternative wingers in mind.
And they are prepared to move on to Plan B or C, believed to be Spartak Moscow's Aiden McGeady and Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips if Wigan are unwilling to do business.
