Aston Villa focused on survival before turning attention to FA Cup

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has said that he wants to ensure Premier League status before turning to his focus to the FA Cup final against Arsenal.

The West Midlands outfit have two league fixtures remaining, beginning with Saturday's trip to Southampton, and Sherwood is looking to care of business before worrying about the May 30 date with the Gunners at Wembley.

Villa currently occupy 14th position on the Premier League table with 38 points, four clear of the relegation zone.

Sherwood said: "The concentration is purely on staying in the division. We've got a lot of hard work to achieve that. If we manage to do that, then to lift silverware in the FA Cup final on May 30 would be very, very good for the club.

"There will be a short break and then we'll be at it again for next season but at the moment we haven't discussed any plans for new players or takeovers or anything like that.

"It's all been put on hold because of the important conversation we've got in front of us."

Villa travel to St Mary's on Saturday and a win will ensure their top flight status for at least another season.
