Aston Villa are keen to secure Ron Vlaar to a new contract.
The Daily Star says Villa are desperate to keep Vlaar out of the clutches of Southampton who are armed with a massive cash kitty after selling a string of their top stars.
They know they need to move fast and owner Randy Lerner is looking at a £45,000 a week four-year contract extension to try and persuade Vlaar to stay.
That goes against recent club policy since American tycoon Randy Lerner put the club up for sale.
