Aston Villa captain Mings insists positives in Liverpool defeat

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings insists they can find positives from defeat at home to Liverpool last night.

The club captain gave an honest assessment of the match when he spoke to VillaTV after the game.

He said: “I don't think we've ever let ourselves down against Liverpool; we always seem to come off the pitch thinking we matched them for large parts or are disappointed or frustrated with the goals. And that is certainly the case here.

“We matched them for large parts but it's not quite good enough on the night.

“Of course, we're proud of the effort, proud of everything that we gave but there's still a little bit of disappointment, of course."

The loss leaves Villa 11th in the Premier League with three games left to play.

Hopes of finishing in the top ten are very much alive, and Mings is determined to achieve that objective.

“Absolutely. And that is our goal," he said.

“We've set our sights firmly on that for a long time and ultimately, we should be judged at the end of a 38-game season.

“There are nine points still to play for, we're confident but there's a lot of hard work to be done between now and then as well."
