Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is delighted with their swoop for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley.

Smith began his news conference this morning talking about new signing Barkley, who joined on loan from Chelsea earlier this week.

"I think it's a real big get. We are really pleased we managed to get him," said Smith.

"We had the opportunity to speak to him and sell him the project that we are looking to achieve this season.

"It's the chance for him to get game time to get into the Euros with England, that's top of his priority list.

"He's only too pleased to be here and I've liked what I've seen so far."

Smith says he does not expect any more new faces to arrive, unless there are some outgoings.

"I think we are quite happy with what we've got at the moment," said Smith.

"We set a target of what we wanted and the positions and we are comfortable with that.

"We will have to keep our finger on the pulse in case anyone comes in for our lads. If there are outs then there's a possibility of ins after that."
