Aston Villa boss Emery unsure of selection for AZ clash: I have doubts

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery admits he's unsure of his selection for tomorrow's Europa Conference League tie with AZ Alkmaar.

Villa go into the game on the back of defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Emery said, “For tomorrow, I have some doubts. I am not clear on the starting XI – why? Because I want to manage trying to impose at home our idea, our style and structure while trying to adapt to them, using different players in the starting XI with the combination I want to add.

“I'm not thinking about Sunday, only tomorrow. Sometimes, maybe seven days before I know the team for the next match. But sometimes I need the last moment, for example today, when I am not clear about the starting XI.

“It's not doubt because I have doubts with some players, no. It's because I want to try to be clinical in my decision about the adaptation of them and how we can play, trying as well something I want to add in our structure tactically.

“I respect a lot AZ Alkmaar and they are a winning team. They are winning a lot of matches in their league and they were successful last year in the Conference League.

“They lost against West Ham in the semi-finals, and I respect them a lot. They have experiences in Europe and they have players with international experiences.

“Tomorrow, I will respect them a lot because it's very important for them because we won the first match there. Tomorrow is matchday four and they will play trying to win and get some points.

“For us it's very important because we can try to increase the difference with AZ Alkmaar and it's a key moment to stay in front of them."
