Asian Cup triumph sees Australia jump 37 FIFA places

The Australian national team has moved a massive 37 place up the FIFA standings.

January's 2015 Asian Cup triumph saw the Socceroos move to 63rd on the February rankings - a vast improvement on their previous position of 100th.

Ange Postecoglou's side defeated Kuwait 4-1, Oman 4-0 and lost to South Korea 1-0 in the group stage before taking down China 2-0 in the quarter-final, the UAE 2-0 in the semi-final and then clinching the title with a 2-1 extra-time win over the Taeguk Warriors in Sydney on January 31.

The successful run saw the Aussies move back into the top four in Asian Football Confederation (AFC) rankings.

Other big movers from the AFC were Iran who moved up 10 spots to 41, South Korea up 15 places to 55th, UAE and China both up 14 spots to 66th and 82nd respectively and Iraq up 20 which sees them break into the top 100 in 94th place.
