Star India has confirmed a five-year deal to televise the German Bundesliga across south Asia, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. The 21st Century Fox-owned broadcaster has signed an agreement with DFL Sports Enterprises, the league's commercial arm, for exclusive coverage in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives from the beginning of next season until the end of 2019/20.
Star India will air games and other programming across its Star Sports TV channels and on its digital and mobile platforms, including live coverage of every game on starsports.com.
No financial terms have been released but Star India is understood to be committing considerably more than the low six-figure sum paid each year by outgoing broadcaster Neo Sports.
"This signing is a reflection of the success we have had in seeing the Bundesliga recognised as a premium product among leading international markets," said DFL Sports Enterprises managing director Jörg Daubitzer.
"Star India provides the ideal environment for the Bundesliga to grow and prosper in India, one of our key strategic markets."
